A Simple Yes

"when we touch the water, we are free"
As the water spilled over every inch of me, I felt a rush of the spirit through my entire body. moments before I sat in a pool next to a dear friend as she spoke words to me that only she, God, and I knew about. I was surrounded by those who have walked with me for so long. It was God-coordinated, the whole thing. Because I, myself, did not know that that is what God had planned when I walked through the church doors that night. I did not expect him to grab onto my heart in the way that he did. But I sat there and I worshipped, and Cory spoke of why and ultimately: Why Not?
you see, there was never a question. never a doubt. I was committed to the Lord and I was walking faithfully for quite some time. I had given my life over to him long before. but I had not done this one thing. my heart began to question and debate. and the Lord said, "this isn't for them. this is for me. this is something you and I need to do." see, it was never about what they thought. it was always about what he asked me to do.

It was a yes. a simple yes. I put aside the questions and the debates. I put aside the voices. and I said yes. His grace and mercy spilled over onto me. and i was made new. As Gracie brought me out of the water, I heard Jesus laughing. Everything moved in slow motion and his Joy took my breath away.

so, yeah. my stories a little bit different, and maybe a little out of order, off the beaten track. but that's who God made me to be: always marching to the beat of my own drum. always doing things just a little bit different. and you know what? he's pretty cool for that. because now I get to share my story when people say, "wait what?" and God gets the glory for the whole thing. See I think he knew what he was doing when he brought me into that church tonight. I think he knew exactly what he was doing. and the only thing I had to do was be willing enough to join him in his adventure.

tonight I was set free. tonight I was made whole. tonight I was brought back to life

hallelujah. amen.
