Herald Angels & Holidays

Hark! The Herald Angels Sing

-------------------------------------------

This holiday season has been one to remember. and I thank God for the people I have been surrounded by. I've spent most days crafting gifts of some sort and spending some quality time with the famfam. Christmas eve didn't quite feel like christmas eve, but I did get some last minute gifting done and also played a ridiculously long game of scrabble with a dear friend at our favorite coffee shop. the day was filled with peace. no rushing, no craziness, just peace & joy. I attended the christmas eve candle light service with my family and then gathered 'round a table of friends for laughs and merriment. christmas day went according to tradition with the unwrapping of gifts and then to spend the day with my mom's family. It was just a nice weekend overall, I must say. and i am so thankful for what i have been given.
This year has been slightly different in that I truly long to be in South Africa. People often ask the question, "what do you want for christmas?" and I simply reply with a gift that seems within reason, but in my head I say loudly, "South Africa, I want to go to South Africa and be with my family." Unfortunately, I know this is not a reasonable gift to ask for. Instead, i look for distractions which has turned out to be a good thing. Family, friends, gifts, and baking make for an easy escape. Sometimes it is nice to have time to be in the presence of people you care for. I think that's my favorite part about the holidays. You simply get time which is something i don't get often. I get time with my friends who I miss. I get time to appreciate the family i was given. but most of all, I get time to rest. and with rest comes reflection on the past year and what it has meant to me. to tell you the truth, im in awe of the events of 2011 and I have faith that 2012 will be another memorable year.

So here's to family, to holidays, and to the new year.
May it bring hope to those hearts who need it.

Hallelujah, Amen
