Songs for the trains: Love is Kind - John Lucas
There was a small girl, blonde hair & blue eyes, that thirsted for something more all her life. She had no idea what she was looking for, but she soon found out that people could not fill the void in her heart like she thought. One day, she watched as a train rolled through her town. It seemed as if it went on forever and she was frightened of how infinite it looked. It passed through for days and then weeks and finally it stopped.
The small girl watched as a man got off the train and beckoned her to the door. He said, "I have what you're looking for. Just step on up." She gladly hopped onto the box car and found a window seat close by. As the hours passed, the terrain began to change and the clouds grew dark. The small girl did not know what was to come: the biggest storm in her lifetime.
Rain drops pelted the window as if banging on a tribal drum. The girl held her ears in terror. All around her was chaos. When the rain let up, she quickly rushed to the man who had beckoned her. "I would like to get off now. I think I have made it to the place I was to go." The train stopped and the small girl got off. She began wandering around aimlessly, refusing to admit that she was lost. The rain began to pour once more and she saw that even though she was frightened of the rain before, at least she was dry. She longed for the train to roll through again. She sought it out but could not find it's next stop.
By this time, she was no longer a small girl. Still blonde haired & blue-eyed, she had wrinkles from years of looking for the train that took her to her heart's home. As she was about to give up searching, in the distance she heard a familiar roar. She knew the train was coming. The girl waited and as the train approached, she greeted the man with a smile. He said, "where have you been? I have missed you all these years." Tears rolled down her cheeks as she realized how much she missed the company of another and how much hurt she had caused him by leaving. Feeling unworthy to ride, the girl began to leave. "Where are you going?" the man said. "I am leaving because I am not worth stopping for." The man stood still in awe of the words that fell from the girls mouth. "You. are my daughter. and I will stop for you every day forever. but it is your choice to get on or not." She embraced her father and leaped onto the train once more.
As she sat in a new seat, looking out of a new window, she could see the mountain and springs and believed it to be the most beautiful thing she ever came across. One morning, she awoke to the sound of rain drops on box cars. But instead of being frightened like she had been so long ago, she smiled as she remembered that even though the rain would fall hard it wouldn't change the fact that she was dry. The train kept her dry. and though the world around her seemed to be falling apart, she sat content in her seat by the window listening to rain drops on box cars until she gently fell asleep.
